Margaret Demuth, 84, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 3rd, 2017 in Houston, Texas. She was born on April 19, 1933 in Old Washington, Texas to parents T.C. & Mabel Kolkhorst. She was baptized and confirmed in Friedens Church of Old Washington, Texas. On May 8th, 1955, Margaret married the love of her life, Henry Demuth. Henry and Margaret met at a dance and enjoyed dancing and co-hosting annual dances with great friends for many years. They lived in Houston, Texas where they raised their 3 children. She graduated from Brenham High School in 1951. She humbly worked for Houston Independent School District and retired after 20 years in 1998. She had a deep love and passion for her family and her home. Her grandchildren were the light of her life. She was a faithful member of St. Stephen’s United Methodist Church. She lived a wonderful and fulfilling life raising her three children. Margaret believed in the Golden Rule, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” She loved the holidays when all the family would gather, she even loved all the cooking and preparation that went with it. She leaves this message to her family: “Go and enjoy your lives and live life to the fullest. Time passes very quickly. Keep God in your lives.”
She is preceded in death by her husband Henry Demuth, her parents T.C. and Mabel Kolkhorst and her brothers James “Bubba” Kolkhorst and T.C. Kolkhorst. Margaret is survived by her brother, Don Kolkhorst, daughters, Karen Shahan and her husband Glenn, Lori Van Cleave and her husband Hayes and son, Mark Demuth and his wife Lia, seven grandchildren, Ryan Shahan and wife Angela, Amy (Shahan) Reynolds and husband Nick, Daniel Shahan, Brittany Van Cleave, Cody Van Cleave, Lindsay Demuth and Ali Demuth; 2 great grandchildren Kashton Shahan and Jackson Reynolds; and numerous nieces, nephews and relatives.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Candy Brigance, her staff at Serenity’s Haven and Peggy Landino for providing extra care and support for our mother over the past few months.
A memorial service will be held, Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 10:00am at American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038.
