Margaret was born January 22, 1934 in Richmond, Virginia to Lewis Cass Adair and Nancy Wright Adair. Margaret attended Mary Baldwin College. Upon marrying Richard S Atmar in 1955 they chose Corpus Christi, Tx to raise their family. Richard was transferred to Houston in 1978 and Margaret began volunteering at the Houston Zoo. She served the zoo for 35 years. Margaret volunteered with the Common Thread sewing circle, Edith Moore Conservatory and various other organizations. She was a true artist. Some of her talents included wood carving, sewing, sculpting and painting. Margaret and Richard loved to travel and explore the world. Some of their travels included Australia, New Zealand, the Amazon River, Costa Rica, Russia, Africa, Panama, Guatemala, Peru, Egypt, China and many others.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Nancy Delano, Cornelia Green, Katharine Wood, and Rebecca Zarnow. She leaves behind her loving husband of 68 years, Richard Atmar; son, Robert Atmar and wife Jill of Houston, TX; daughters, Margaret Atmar of Oakland, CA, Katherine Simson and husband Lance of Grand Prairie, TX, Emily Sheehan and husband Mike of Austin, TX; grandchildren Joshua Simson, Marisa Sassaman,Chris Atmar, Zachary Simson,Nathan Atmar, Jenny Atmar, Alexis Sheehan, Connor Sheehan and Annie ben Izzy; and great grandchildren Barrett Sassaman, Jackson Atmar, Leoni Sassaman, Scarlett Atmar, Archer Sassaman, Zoe Ponzio and Canon Ponzio.
The family would like to give special thanks to Margaret’s caregivers Jamie, Kim and LaShanda.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 30th, 2023 at 10:30 am at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church, 12955 Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77079.
