husband Robert and daughters Jennifer and Allison were holding her as she peacefully passed
from complications of her courageous two-year battle with cancer.
Marcia was born to Franklin and Melba Wehrle on February 19, 1944, in St. Louis, Missouri. As
a child, her parents instilled in her a great appreciation for the beauty of the outdoors. Along
with her brother Bill, and sister, Jan, they camped often and visited every capital in the
continental United States and most of Canada by car. After graduating from Normandy High
School, Marcia attended the University of Missouri where she received a BS in Interior Design.
While in college, she met her best friend and the love of her life, Robert Nelson Healy. They
were married on August 26, 1967 and moved to Houston in June 1968, shortly after Marcia’s
college graduation.
Marcia and Robert welcomed their daughters, Jennifer Jeanne in 1972 and Allison Anne in
1976. Marcia was a very involved, energetic and affectionate mother. She actively showed and
shared her love with her girls through hugs and holding hands to creating art projects and
teaching them about nature. It is no wonder that Jennifer became an architect and Allison a
veterinarian and they both find meaning in God’s creations. From Marcia’s maternal
grandmother through her children, they have dedicated over 100 years of service to the Girl
Scouts. Marcia also loved to dance and spent 65 years of her life doing so taking or instructing
1 to 3 classes daily well into her seventies. She owned her own residential interior design firm
in Houston for 30 years. Marcia loved to play bridge. In recent years, she enjoyed working
with the students and faculty of the Architecture/Interior Design Department at the
University of Missouri, where she endowed graduate scholarships and a lectureship.
Marcia, along with her husband, Robert, was a long-time and spirited member of Second
Baptist Church and the Live at Five Bible Study Class. Over the last two years when faced with
the difficulties of her illness, she never once complained. In fact, Marcia was very peaceful
and content, living in God’s grace and preparing for eternity.
Marcia loved life and had a great journey here on earth. She and Robert shared a deep and
inspirational love and partnership for 54 ½ years. She was a loving mommy and grandmommy.
She knew and loved God through Jesus Christ. Marcia is, without a doubt, dancing in Heaven
now.
Marcia is survived by her husband Robert, her daughters Jennifer Wood and Allison Jenkins,
her grandchildren Sam Wood, Hudson Wood, River Jenkins and Ashton Jenkins, Jr., sons-in-law
Charles (Charlie) Wood and Ashton Jenkins, her brother Bill Wehrle, and her many nieces and
nephews.
Marcia’s family will be holding a graveside service for the immediate family. All are invited to join the family virtually at 10 AM on March 15th.
A memorial service is planned for later in the year at Second Baptist Church. All are welcome
and encouraged to attend this celebration of Marcia’s life.
