Manuel was born to Francisco Lopez and Micaela Lopez on August 20, 1932, in Houston, Texas. He is survived by his sons: Paul Lopez and wife Cecilia, and Benjamin Lopez, his grandchildren: Laura Pelini and husband Josh, Lisa Lopez, Leslie Melton and husband Jonathan, Pavia Justinian, his great-granddaughter, Olivia Rose Pelini, and his brother Anthony “Tony” Lopez and wife Belia. He also leaves to cherish his memory many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Frances Jasso, and brothers Juan Lopez, Arturo Lopez, Ralph Lopez, and Tomas Lopez. He was also preceded in death by his oldest brother, Aniseto Lopez, who died in 1945 in Germany during WWII at the age of 21.
Manuel graduated from Milby High School in 1950 and received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy in 1955 after serving four years on the U.S.S. Logan in Korea and Japan. After serving his country, Manuel worked in mail operations for the United States Postal Service for 40 years. He enjoyed golf, playing cards, crossword puzzles, and watching his Houston sports teams.
The family would like to thank Lawrence Ramirez for his five years of loving friendship and devoted attention to Manuel’s household needs.
A visitation for Manuel will be held Saturday, July 8, 2023 from 9:30 AM to 10:00 AM at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, TX 77023. A funeral service will occur Saturday, July 8, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A committal service will follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
