1923-2017
Mamie Ruth Melton of Pasadena, Texas, was born in Commerce, Texas, 94 years ago. She passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2017, with her family by her side. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 51 years, Earl Watman Melton, her parents James and Gertrude Hamilton, her sister Velma Hamilton, and her brother Auther Hamilton.
She leaves behind her son Gary Watman Melton and wife Kathleen Melton, grandson Jason Melton, granddaughter Amanda Baldwin and husband Aaron Baldwin, her precious great-granddaughters Jessica Paige Baldwin and Lily Ann Baldwin who were her joy and her heart, her sister-in-law Dorothy Hamilton, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mamie faced death with the same dignity, grace, and selflessness that she displayed throughout her life—always thinking of others and attending to their needs rather than her own. She wore her faith like a badge for everyone to see. The Lord's Word was so much a part of her life that she filled the margins and spaces in her Bible with journal entries of the special events and accomplished goals of her family's experiences, as if their lives were interwoven within its pages. Donations may be made in Mamie's memory to Faith Memorial Baptist Church in Houston, Texas, where she was a long-time member, attending services every Sunday—even up until her recent illness.
A celebration of her life will be held Wednesday, October 25th, with public viewing beginning at 10:00 A.M. and services beginning at 11:00 A.M. at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, 6900 Lawndale St., Houston, Texas, 713-928-5141. The family is honored to have Pastor Andrew Johnson of Faith Memorial Baptist Church and Director Ken Durham of Juncture Church of Pasadena officiating. Interment will follow at 1:00 P.M. at South Park Cemetery, 1310 North Main, Pearland, Texas, 281-485-2711. Pallbearers include Norman Davis, Jeff Fox, Aaron Baldwin, Jason Melton, Mike Lockridge, and Roger Melton.
