Born in Hillsboro, Texas on the 25th of December 1915, she was the youngest of seven children and grew up to love the arts, reading good books, travel and gardening.
She married Charles Bertram Spangler in June, 1934 and they moved to Houston in 1939. In 1947, they made their permanent home in Bellaire and she became a librarian of Bellaire Library for 27 years. They raised two children, Joseph Monroe Spangler and Cynthia Lou Spangler. After her retirement, she enjoyed many years of volunteer work at the Abby Theater, playing bridge and taking bible classes.
She was preceded in death by her husband Charles in 1975 and her daughter Cynthia in 1991.
Macon is survived by her son, Joseph Spangler; one grandchild, Stephen Spangler; and four great grandchildren, Caroline, Alexis, Jacob and Matthew.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock in the afternoon until seven o’clock in the evening on Thursday, the 7th of October, at Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
The funeral service is to be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Friday, the 8th of October, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 4900 Jackwood Street in Houston, where the Rev. Christopher A. Bowhay is to officiate.
All are invited to gather with the family for the interment service, which is to follow at three o’clock in the afternoon, at the Lakewood Section of Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale Avenue in Houston.
In lieu of customary remembrances, contributions in memory of Macon Spangler may be directed to Citizens for Animal Protection, 11925 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX, 77079.
