Mack A. Hamilton, real name McAllen Hamilton, was born March 16, 1923 to D.D. and Roberta Hamilton in Toyah, Texas. They moved to Kilgore, TX in 1933. Mack graduated and worked for a Steel Mill before entering the U.S. Army. He fought in the battle of Okinawa and received both the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was discharged from the army in 1946 and worked in Houston, TX until 1948. He returned to Kilgore, TX and entered Kilgore Jr. College.On December 28, 1948, Mack was married to Katheryne Hayes. He soon entered Oklahoma University, where he majored in Petroleum Engineering. In 1953, He went to work for Gulf Petroleum. In January 1954, Mack and Katheryne were blessed by the birth of son, Mark Allen. A second son, Michael Hayes was born in January of 1957. In 1954, the family moved to Oppolousa, LA, where Mack worked at the Gulf gasoline plant. In 1958, they moved back to Houston, where he went to work with Southwest Industries, Inc. He worked for other companies throughout the years, but his last position was with Production Operations, Inc. He retired December 31, 1995.Mack was known as “Good Sam” because he helped fix things for anyone when they called. He especially loved his grandchildren; Katelyn, Jack, Mac, and Carli. Following a private graveside service at Houston National Cemetery a memorial service will be conducted on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at 2:00 pm in the Hunters Creek Chapel at Earthman Funeral Directors, 8303 Katy Freeway, Houston, 77024.
