Mabel Lee Sepulvado

She was born in Hico, Texas on June 22, 1928, to John and Effie Braswell. Raised in rural Texas during The Great Depression, Mabel often told stories about growing up during hard times, and throughout her adult life hoped to pass the life lessons that she learned on to her family. She did everything she could to ensure her children and grandchildren had everything they could need, since she herself had grown up with so very little.

Mabel Lee Braswell moved to Houston in 1945, and often spoke about her time as an accountant working for the city (occasionally bragging about how many words a minute she could type). She would eventually meet her husband, Clifton Sepulvado, who had moved to Houston shortly after serving in World War II. They were married on April 26, 1947, and would remain so for 60 years.

She was a member of The Holy Family Church and The Golden Friendship Group, and had a passion for painting, calligraphy, cooking, and sewing.

Mabel dedicated her life to her family. Be it lessons in the kitchen and keeping a clean house, to the importance of a higher education, she wanted nothing more than to see her family succeed and achieve independence.

Mabel was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Clifton Sepulvado, and her youngest son Lloyd Sepulvado.

She is survived by her eldest son Larry Sepulvado, daughter-in-law Laurie Sepulvado, grandson Austin Sepulvado, and granddaughter Tyler Sepulvado - whom she lovingly helped raise from a toddler through high school, and who has accepted the care of Mabel’s cat Princess.

A visitation for Mabel will be held Wednesday, October 16, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77077. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, October 16, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77077. A committal service will occur Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, 12800 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX 77077.
