Lynda Jean Bergen passed away on Friday, November 26th at the age of 82 in Houston, Texas. She was born on her grandparents farm in Tarkington Prairie, Texas on September 22, 1939 to Grady and Polly Poland. Her family would eventually settle in Houston, however, her time spent with her many cousins outside of the city was something she spoke of fondly and often. Family was always important to her, she made sure to raise her girls with this as a core value. Lynda graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1958. Upon graduation, she immediately entered the working world eventually being hired at EF Hutton. Sharing an apartment with her close friends and establishing independence during this time were some of her favorite memories.
On May 4th, 1963 Lynda married the love her life, Dan Bergen. Their marriage of over 58 years was a true example of love and devotion. We take peace in knowing they are once again reunited. Together they built a successful and beautiful life. Lynda took pride in raising her family and creating a home that was welcoming and beautiful. Every holiday was decorated and every birthday was celebrated. Her favorite holiday was Christmas, she loved the music, the decorating and of course, the shopping. The annual family celebration was an event she always looked forward to.
Lynda built a successful career as an Executive Assistant in the oil and gas industry. Her career was something she always took pride in. Lynda established a reputation of being meticulous, reliable and confident. Her achievements and friendships she developed during this time were something she always cherished.
Her favorite role was “Grandmommy”. She loved her seven grandchildren with all her heart and time with them was precious. It was important to her to attend as many of their events as possible.
Lynda loved the Texas Longhorns, the beach, Las Vegas, Elvis Presley, Disney World, decorating and of course shopping.
Lynda was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dan Bergen, her parents Grady and Polly Poland, brother Johnny Poland, sister Juanita Poland and another younger sibling. She is survived by her three daughters, Karen Bergen, Kristen Bergen Williamson (husband Keith), Kelli Bergen Lightsey (husband Jason). She leaves behind her seven grandchildren, Katie Williamson, Sam Williamson, Abby Williamson, Maggie Williamson, Caroline Lightsey, Ben Lightsey and Emma Lightsey.
A visitation with family & friends for Lynda will be held Tuesday, November 30th starting at 1:00pm at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX 77079. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, November 30th from 2:00pm with a committal service to follow immediately at Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
A reception will be held immediately after the committal service at Jason and Kelli Lightsey’s house, 11510 Timberly Park Lane Cypress, TX 77433.
