Lydia Martinez Vara passed away on Thursday, September 22nd at the age of 84. A native Texan and always proud of it, she was born in Houston on September 6th, 1927. Lydia is preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Guedea Vara. She is survived by their daughters Velma Madsen and husband Bryce, Lis Pettigrew and husband Guy; son Adam Vara; four grandchildren; one great grandson; two sisters Irene Munoz and Beatriz Romero. The family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday, September 28th from 5pm to 7pm at Pat H. Foley Funeral Directors, a service to celebrate Lydia’s life will start at 7pm. She will be laid to rest at 11am on Thursday, September 29th at Houston National cemetery, 10401 Veterans Memorial Dr., Houston 77038.
