After being honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy, Luther worked for Trumble Electric. He joined the police academy and began his career with the Houston Police Department before retiring after 20 years of service. While working for HPD, Luther obtained his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Houston. Following retirement from HPD, he worked as an attorney in his own practice for several years. After battling throat cancer, he joined Tenneco's corporate security department, officially retiring from there.
Luther and his wife, Ivill, were members of St. James Lutheran Church in Houston for 40 years and current members of United Methodist Church in Onalaska, on Lake Livingston where they resided until his death. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend who was devoted to his family and will be missed by all.
Luther was preceded in death by his parents; and brother James Cook. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ivill Cook; his daughter, Rhonda Norris and husband Jeff; his sons, Randy Cook and wife Anneliese and Bradley Cook and wife Diane; his grandchildren, Adam Norris, Holly Lewis, Shane, Ryan, Rusty, Tyler, Jessica and Cameron Cook; his great-granddaughter, Julia Norris; his sister, Mary Ross; and other loving relatives and friends.
Visitation with the family will be held at 10 AM on Friday, June 3, 2011 in the Hunters Creek Chapel of Earthman Funeral Directors, 8303 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX. Funeral service will follow at 11 AM. A graveside service and committal will immediately follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Houston, TX.
