Lupe Castaneda Rodriguez, age 77, of Spring, Texas was taken home to the kingdom of heaven on Thursday, May 19, 2022 surrounded by her loved ones. Lupe was born August 1, 1944 in Mercedes, Texas to Cleofas and Rosalinda Castañeda and spent her childhood growing up in Edna, TX.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jorge Andres Rodriguez, her brothers Luis Bocanegra, Trinidad Bocanegra and Johnny Gonzales. Her sisters Balbina Figueroa, Zenaida DeLaRosa, Victoria Garza and her brother in law Robert Luna. She is survived by her son Pete Anthony Leija, his wife Monica and their children Morgan, Samantha, Jay, Christopher and Berenice. Her daughter Paulette Angela Statton, her husband Lou and their children Megan, Jerrod, Kaiden and RyLee. Her daughter Emilia Rose Cunningham her husband Andrew and their children Mark, Michael and Jackson As well as her sister Geneva Luna and the father of her two oldest children Pete Alejo Leija.
Lupe had a successful career as a CSR for South Western Bell for 30+ years. She spent the majority of her life living in north Houston raising her children and thriving amongst her friends. Throughout her life she travelled the world extensively and when she was home was a social butterfly amongst her Bunco and Dominos ladies groups. Lupe was a devout Catholic and a longtime member of Assumption Catholic Church. She was a member of the women’s Catholic Altar Society for a number of years and after she retired she was able to spend her time watching her grand children grow, achieve milestones and basked in her pride of them. She was loved and adored by her husband, children, family and more friends than one could count due to her loving and generous nature. Her ability to love was reflected in those relationships and was contagious to all those who knew her. In late 2019 she moved to Spring, Tx to live with her daughter Paulette and her family. Saying that she will be missed is a huge understatement
A gathering for Lupe will be held Saturday, June 4, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038, followed by a memorial service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
