Luisa was born to Juan and Presentacion Gutierrez, on August 19, 1925, in Bastrop, Texas. She married Marcelino T. Garza in 1943, and they lived together in Houston, Texas where they raised their six children. They were married for 54 years until his passing in 1997.
She is survived by her daughters Elva Mahaffey, Angelina Gonzalez, Elisa Miranda and her son, Rudolph Garza. She also leaves to cherish her memory, her younger sister, Janie Martinez, as well as, her 12 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marcelino T. Garza, and her two sons, Mariano and Juan Garza.
For many years, she was a dedicated wife and mother raising her children at home. Later in life when all the kids were grown, she worked at the Astrodome for Aramark with her best friend, Doris Salcido. She loved attending games and serving some of Houston’s best-known newscasters for Channel 13. She also enjoyed playing bingo, putting together flower arrangements, sewing, quilting, needlepoint, and collecting anything with pigs.
A visitation for Luisa will be held Monday, November 28, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, TX 77023. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, November 29, 2022 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, TX 77023. A committal service will occur Tuesday, November 29, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 8601 Almeda Genoa Rd, Houston, TX 77075.
