Luis Alonso Sanchez, Jr., age 35, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, December 24, 2024. He was born on August 13, 1989, to Luis A. Sanchez, Sr. and Maria (Valdez) Sanchez in Houston, Texas. After graduating from Faith Christian Academy in 2007, Luis went on to study at San Jacinto College. Most recently, Luis worked for Harris County CSCD. Luis’ life is characterized by his strong faith, devotion to family, and passion for sports.
Above all, Luis was devoted to his faith. Raised in a Christian home, Luis learned and treasured traditional Christian values while modeling them throughout the course of his life. Despite the many challenges dealt to him, he continued to place his trust in God. Luis never lost sight of God’s perfect plan for his life. He demonstrated courage, strength, and bravery as he battled cancer. He often reminded his family of the peace provided by God. Regardless of his circumstances, he shined as a bright light to all who interacted with him. Luis gave God the glory in all that He did, exemplifying his valiant fortitude in his identity in Christ. Today, he smiles down upon us as he is fully restored in heaven above in the presence of the Lord Almighty.
Luis was the firstborn of a family of three boys. He loved his brothers deeply and would often tell those who were disciplining his brothers “dejalo”, always defending them. The three brothers (‘the boys’) were always together growing up, receiving identical gifts and matching clothes. From group photographs dressed as “los bandidos” to carnival rides and roller coasters at AstroWorld, the boys grew up as the best of friends, sharing laughs and many memories. Luis was loved by everyone, especially his brothers who would gift him his favorite team jerseys in his final years. Loving his family was his greatest gift to all.
Luis played many sports during his high school years. Most notably, he would tell of his time on the basketball team and the final scores of those games with precision. If there was a game on TV, Luis was sure to be watching and would cheer on all the Houston teams including the Texans, Astros, Rockets, and Dynamo. Despite his love for the home teams, his knowledge of sports included college football with remarkable memory of games and players from long ago. He knew dates, times, and statistics with remarkable clarity.
Luis was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Alfonsa (Muniz) Valdez and Primitivo Valdez. He is survived by his parents, Maria E. Sanchez and Luis A. Sanchez, Sr.; his brothers Lorenzo Sanchez and Josue Sanchez; his paternal grandparents, Jose Luis and Bartola Lopez; and many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Serving as pallbearers are Luis A. Sanchez, Sr., Lorenzo Sanchez, Josue Sanchez, Chan Miller, Chad Miller, and Michael Reeves.
