It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Luis Ernesto Martinez, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, and a man of simple, yet profound passions. He left this world on October 23, 2023 in the comfort of his home surrounded by the love of his family.
His battle with serious medical issues following his car accident in July showed yet again, his relentless courage and strength in facing life challenges with a smile. Despite what he was faced with at the end of his road to recovery, he stayed strong and remained our hero.
Born in Buga, Colombia where he met the love of his life at a young age. It was love at first sight for the both of them and she supported him in all of his decisions. He was determined to live out the American Dream and make a life for himself, his wife, and his future family here but first they would write love letters to each other for 7 years. After a long courtship, they married in 1974. Together, they had two children, Richard and Julie.
He was a dedicated and hardworking man who lived his life with unwavering commitment. He cherished the value of hard work and instilled this principle in all those who had the privilege of knowing him. Whether it was through his job, his family, tinkering in the garage, or fixing anything and everything, he approached every task with dedication and a strong work ethic.
One of the most endearing qualities of Ernesto was his love for the simpler things in life. He found joy in the gentle beauty of nature, from tending to his garden, raising his parakeets and sparrows, to listening to his music in the living room. His appreciation for life's small wonders was a constant reminder to all who knew him that happiness could be found in the most ordinary of moments. In addition to his work and simple pleasures, Ernesto had a passion for dancing, which brought him immense joy throughout his life. This passion was a testament to his zest for life and his ability to find fulfillment in the things he loved.
He was a loving father who not only provided for his family but also shared his wisdom, warmth and kindness to those around him. He will be remembered for the warmth in his smile, the comfort in his presence, and his unwavering love he had for his family and friends.
Ernesto is survived by his beloved wife, Maria Emma, children Richard and Julie, and his grandson, Samir. He also leaves his extended family in Texas, New York, and his immediate beloved family in Colombia. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those he touched.
The Viewing and Rosary will be held at Garden Oaks Funeral Home on Friday, November 3, 2023 starting at 4:00pm, the Mass will be at 11:30am at St. Justin Martyr Catholic Church followed by the burial at 1:00pm at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home both on Saturday, November 4, 2023.
