Louise Nickles Smith passed away March 3, 2016 at her home in Pearland, Texas. She was 86 years old. Louise was born in Marksville, LA on October 9, 1929. She graduated high school from Marksville Colored High School in 1947. In the early 1950's, she moved to Houston, Texas where she met her future husband Horace Lee Smith. They married on November 5, 1955. Louise was a loving wife and devoted mother to their three children Joseph T. Smith, Diane Smith and Kenneth L. Smith (deceased).
Her primary profession was as a homemaker but for two years in the mid-1970's, Louise was a teacher's aide to special education children in the Houston Independent School District.
Louise was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church. She loved her church and the members who make up the church. She was also a member of the Daughter's of the King. She enjoyed the DOK very much and the women who serve in the organization.
Louise was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Lelia Nicholas, her husband of 42 years Horace Lee Smith, her son Kenneth L. Smith, her brother Allen Nicholas, her sister Jean Alice Nicholas and her beloved dog Sassy of 14 years. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Joseph T. Smith and Diane Smith, her brothers Henry Nicholas, Jr., Clifton Nicholas, Lones Nicholas, Wilson Nicholas, Albert Nicholas and Larry Nicholas, her sisters Laura Green and Marie Taylor, a host of cousins, nieces and nephews and her beloved dog, Sandy of 4 years.
Visitation will begin at 10:30am on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at All Saints Episcopal Church, 605 Dulles Ave., Stafford, Texas 77447. The Funeral Service will begin at 11:15am. The service will be officiated by Father Stephen Whaley. Following the services, Louise will be buried next to her husband at Houston Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Pearland, Texas.
The family would like to thank Triumph Healthcare, Encompass Home Health and Vantage Hospice for their tireless efforts to make our mother comfortable during the final weeks of her life. We are also especially grateful to Dr. Christopher R. Lockhart for his guidance in educating us on what to expect from the cruel nature of Alzheimer's disease.
