Louis (Lou) W. Powers passed away on January 9th, 2022 at the age of 86. Lou was born on June 17, 1935 in El Dorado, Kansas as the youngest child of Bill and Lucile Powers. Lou graduated from high school in Winfield, Kansas in 1953. He graduated from Oklahoma A&M (now Oklahoma State University) in May 1957. After college, he earned a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Ohio State University. He met his wife Ruth Nell Ramsey at the Wesley Foundation in Stillwater. They married on June 29, 1958 and settled in Jenks, Oklahoma where Lou started his 22 year career with the Jersey Production Research Company, which later became Exxon. His career with Exxon resulted in many moves including one tour in Venezuela and another in Saudi Arabia. After retiring from Exxon in 1979, Lou started his own firm Patterson, Powers Petroleum Consultants, eventually becoming Powers Petroleum Consultants. After retiring in 1995, Lou was involved in Prison Ministry for 17 years. He was a longtime member of Memorial Drive United Methodist Church.
His grandchildren remember him for his love of God, family and sweets. Their lives have been
immensely blessed by his foresight to create a space for the whole family to gather and adventure, known simply as “the farm.” They are grateful for a grandfather involved in their lives, attending concerts, games and meets, loving them by teaching them to fish and the value of hard work.
With the help of a keyboard created by his oldest grandson with help from his oldest granddaughter, Lou’s last miraculous gift was a book he wrote about the lives of people who touched him and those he touched.
He is preceded in death by his parents Bill and Lucile Powers of Winfield, Kansas and his son Jamie Powers of Houston. Lou is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Ruth Nell Powers; his sister Marilyn McNeish of Winfield, Kansas; his daughter Lou Ann Davenport and husband Steve of Sugar Land, Texas; daughter Cheryl Stillson and husband Bryan of Katy, Texas; daughter-in-law Ann Powers of Houston, Texas; 8 grandchildren, Blake Davenport, Matthew Davenport, Rebecca Powers, Melinda Powers, Louie Powers, Luke Stillson, Benjamin Stillson and Caleb (CJ) Stillson and numerous nieces and nephews.
