Last rites were held on Wednesday, August 23rd, 2017 for Mr. Louis E. Jenkins, 95, who died in his home from melanoma cancer. Due to the present conditions in Houston, the memorial service has been delayed.
Mr. Jenkins was a resident of League City, Texas, for 44 years, and was a native of Texas. Smart, kind and an adventurer. He married his sweetheart after the service. He counts patience, humility and honesty as virtues he lives by, and likes to say,” You’re as good as your word”.
He is predeceased by his parents; Clyde E. Jenkins of Sulphur Springs, TX, and Bessie Jenkins [Minor] of Vermont, Posey, Illinois. His Brother, Clyde E. Jenkins Jr. of San Antonio, Texas, and Sister, Marcheta Roundsville [Jenkins] of Dallas, Texas.
Survivors include a wife, Audrey L. Jenkins [Lewallen]; son, Colonel Patrick L. Jenkins of Bradenton, Florida, and Pamela J Rowe [Jenkins] of Bali, Indonesia; and two grandsons, Major [retired] Christopher P. Jenkins of College Station, Texas, and Andrew P. Jenkins of Alexandria, VA; grandsons, Noah P. Jenkins and Benjamin T. Jenkins of College Station, Texas.
Louis Evins Jenkins was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on May 20, 1922. He was married to Miss Audrey Loyola Jenkins [Lewallen] for 67 years.
Born and raised up in Alice, Texas, Louis graduated from High School in 1940. He served in the Navy from 1943-1945 in Corpus Christi, Texas and Southeast Asia. After returning from the service he attended University at Sul Ross State College, in Alpine, Texas, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1948. He was a Golden Gloves Champion Boxer.
Throughout his life he had several positions in Industrial Safety Engineering and Human Resources; both in Construction and Petro-Chemical Plants.
He worked for Mobil Oil in South America, until the political climate changed, and he thought it was best to return his family to the states. He started working for Continental Emsco in Houston, Texas, while getting his Masters Degree in Safety Engineering at University of Houston in 1959.
After graduating he relocated his family to Dangerfield, Texas, where he worked for Lone Star Steel, as a Safety Engineer. After a few years he progressed to a Lecturer at University of A&M Extension School in Bryan-College Station, Texas; and again as a Vocational Department Chairman at Cisco Jr. College, in Cisco, Texas.
In 1969, he relocated his family to upstate NY-Syracuse, NY to work for Bendix Corporation. He was then transferred to both Toms River, NJ and South Bend, Indiana to work in the Aerospace Division with Bendix Corporation. When the Aerospace Division started winding down, he moved his family back to Friendswood, Texas while he worked at GAF Corporation, in Texas City, TX.
Later on, in the middle 80’s; Louis decided to return to the oil business in the Middle East with both Armco and Grace Corporation, in Saudi Arabia.
He returned in 1987 to the states, and started Lecturing again for University of Houston Extension School. His heart remained in the oil business, and he went to work for BP a short period, before retiring at the age of 85.
