Lou was born to Louis Fritz Eilers and Esther Voelkel Eilers on August 23, 1930 in La Grange, Fayette County, Texas. As their only child he grew up in the area of Texas settled by German immigrants and strongly influenced by German culture. Louis F. Eilers Jr. passed away on September 15, 2021 at the age of 91 in Conroe, Montgomery County, Texas.
Louis graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1948 where he was known as “L. F.” and was the Senior class president, an avid fast pitch softball player, captain of the basketball team, member of the yearbook staff, and F.H.A. Sweetheart.
Lou served in the US Air Force stationed in Okinawa Japan and Guam as a radio mechanic.
He married Dorothy Reising and they had two children Deborah and Kenneth. After his wife’s passing in 1974, Lou married Patsy (Reppond) Matchett and they formed a blended family with their five children as longtime residents of Pearland, Texas. While there Lou enjoyed coaching Little League Baseball.
For 23 years Lou was employed as a field sales representative for Jenkins Bros. Valve Company. After they closed their Houston offices following a merger, Lou then worked at South Coast Supply Company in Houston, from where he eventually retired. After retirement he and Pat moved to Canyon Lake where they both volunteered for the Chamber of Commerce.
Lou was known by all as a ‘people person’ who enjoyed dancing, fishing, golfing, and who enjoyed barbecuing and making his German inspired recipes. He had been a longtime Houston Oiler fan all the way back to the team’s early days, and he held season tickets during the “Luv Ya Blue” heyday. His cooking skills led him to be a master competition cook-off chef along with his many friends.
He and Patsy divorced in 1999. Lou eventually took up residence with his son Kenneth and enjoyed his retirement time fishing and golfing, along with his daughter Deborah, as well as spending time with his young grandchildren.
Lou was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Mae (Reising) Eilers, his parents Louis Fritz Eilers Sr. and Esther (Voelkel) Eilers, his stepmother Emilie Ann (Lukas) Eilers. Although an only child himself, Lou came from a large extended family. He was also preceded in death by many uncles and aunts and numerous cousins.
He is survived by his daughter Deborah Eilers Cannata and her partner Anthony Wisnewski of Houston; son Kenneth Eilers and wife Kimberly and their children Kristen, Noah, and Nathan of Willis; stepson Steve Matchett and wife Terri of Houston, stepdaughter Carol Hart and husband Mike of Cypress, and their daughter Amanda Long; stepson Paul Matchett and wife Jackie of San Antonio and their children Aaron Matchett and Emily Ann Dye.
