   I just today learned of Louie's passing.  I am so very sorry. 
   Jerry Secrest sent me the nice obituary today.  I'm sending it to other cousins that probably don't know.  The last time some of us saw Louie was at Scott's funeral.  
    Louie was such a bright and talented man. He will be missed by many, I am sure.

Dick and I  were your neighbors on Brun Street-2105. I just learned of Louie's death from our mutual friend Jack Moore.  We are so very sorry.  You guys were a wonderful addition to the block, as were your lovely dogs.  Our condolences to you and the family.

Cary, I was so sorry to heard of the loss of  Louie. My family and I have many fond memories of our boys  and Sonny when they were in school together.. I will keep you and your family in my prayers as you face these days without him.

Louie was a law school classmate, an esteemed colleague in the oil and gas bar and a wonderful neighbor in Memorial.  He was first and foremost a gentleman.  He made a difference.  My condolences to his family and to his host of friends who will miss his warm smile.

We have so many wonderful memories from living next door to y’all on Butterfly for so many years.  Our heart goes out to you Cary and the boys.  You are very special to us.

Louis was very special to me.  I was an associate at Thompson & Knight in fear of not making my hours. Louis came into my office like a lighting bolt and asked me if I had time to help him for the day.  That day turned into almost 4 years!!  He taught me everything about Oil and Gas law. He was a terrific teacher, mentor, lawyer, and advocate. When I got an opportunity to move into an in-house position, Louis encouraged me, even though I was scared.  He loved his family. We talked about Cary and his sons so much-I felt like part of the family!   Louis was fun and funny. I’m so sorry for your loss Cary and family. God Bless you all. Heaven has gained an Angel. 

I am honored to have known Louie during my years as a young lawyer at Baker McKenzie. His reputation as a dynamite attorney and highly respected firm leader gave you every reason to be intimidated, but Louie immediately made you feel at ease with his genuine smile and kind and encouraging nature. His graciousness and warmth was only matched by his lovely wife Cary, and my husband and I always looked forward to seeing them - the last time being at our wedding just before we moved overseas. I still remember talking to him on that day.


Louie made a positive impact on me and, I’m certain, everyone he met. I don’t have enough words to say how much I admire him or how sad I am that he is gone. My most heartfelt condolences go to Cary and the entire family. 

We will all miss Louis very much at Baker McKenzie.  He was a consummate professional, a gentleman, and always a friend ready to talk with a big smile on his face. To bring that humanity and sense of humor every day to work just seem to be one of the natural gifts that God gave him. Our thoughts and prayers to Cary and the boys, God bless you and keep you all.

I had the pleasure of working with Louie during my time at Baker & McKenzie, both from Chicago and Tokyo.  Following my move in-house, Louie was instrumental in helping me to get up and running.
He was a great mentor, colleague and friend.  He was always willing to give counsel and support, and his smile and laugh was utterly contagious.  I will miss our steak dinners talking about everything from samurai movies to surfing, but I will miss his friendship the most.  With my sincere sympathies.

 What a man, friend, brother! I realize now is the time for mourning our collective loss. Cary, no one’s loss is greater than yours. But we are all envious of the years, months, weeks, days and hours you spent with our friend and brother Louie. I choose to complete mourning soon and then only relish memories of the time I was blessed to spend with Louie. Our lives have all been enriched by our friendship with Louie. What a guy!  I loved Louie and growing up together in Memorial and going to school together.  We had such good times playing cards at our house, his house and Cary’s with Amy, Brian, Kevin, Bubba, and others.  His Smile really did light up the room and there was always such a loyalty and sweetness to his friendship.  Whenever i think of Louie it makes me smile. Uncle Louie was the kind of man who  lit up the room he was in. He always had a positive outlook on life, and lived it to the fullest. Even as a kid, you could always tell he took genuine interest in whatever you had to say when you were speaking with him. His laughter was contagious, and I'll always cherish the memories I have of him.

Cary, I was so sad to read that Louie had passed away.  I will always remember when you first met him at my house in Sandalwood.  He was way too young and please know I will be thinking of you and your family.

Dear sweet Cary, I was so shocked and saddened to hear of the loss of Louie.  I will always appreciate and remember the wonderful way in which Louie included me and made me feel a part of the family along with his beloved Uncle George. I went to college with Louie at Southwestern in Georgetown, he was a great guy and a friend to all who knew him.  I saw him last at church in Galveston, as always he was kind and welcoming.  We will all miss him.

Louie was a kind and decent soul who always took a genuine interest in others.  His smile and laugh were infectious and while he will be greatly missed his legacy will live on through Will/Ross/Todd/Jess.  You 4 young men were truly blessed to have a man of impeccable character to raise and guide you.  I know you will continue to make him proud by living lives worthy of his devotion to you. Louie Davis was a colleague and good friend from our times together at Thompson & Knight and Baker McKenzie.  His enthusiasm for his work was contagious and he gave generously of his time and counsel.  Louie was tragically taken away too early.  My wife Donna and I feel the loss but it is Louie’s family we are thinking of at a time like this with sympathy and love.  The impact of his friendship, good humor and honesty will remain a positive force for me that cannot be erased by his passing.


Great pictures of Louie and family.   I know Louie loved the water, and I recall stories and pictures of Cary and the kids making memories at Lake McQueeny and trips to beaches in Mexico and other places.  His desks were always neatly arranged and filled with pictures of his family.  He enjoyed telling stories about Cary and the kids at the lake, along with other Houstonians who had homes at the lake. 

I have fond memories of working for Louie at Lous J. Davis & Associates and other firms on and off from 1990 until 2006.  Louie was firm, but fair and forgiving.  Louie taught me the oil and gas title examination business, as well as the strong work ethic and careful, methodical way of preparing your work.  Make a note (in the form of a box on the right-hand side of your title opinion), and check that box when the comment and requirement were finished. Anybody in the oil and gas business knows the ups and downs of the oil industry, and when Louie's business slowed, Louie basically arranged a new job for me with another firm.  Later, when business improved, Louie hired me back.  I am so appreciative of Louie's help and all that I learned from him.  

I remember many nights working quite late to meet a client deadline.  Louie often said "Cartwright, you have a 'can-do attitude,' and you remind me of my younger self."   I took that as a great compliment, knowing Louie's hard work, commitment to excellence and intelligence.  

To Cary and the family, may the many good memories and your love for Louie sustain you in this difficult time of loss.  I know you will miss him greatly, as will many other long-time friends. 

I served with Louie on the Pastor Nominating Committee that ultimately brought Tom Tewell to MDPC.  We made several trips together (this was before DVD's of sermons). He was a delight to travel with, always upbeat and with a great sense of humor. I remember Bill and Pat as well, and know that they were always very proud of Louie.

I was so saddened to learn of the untimely passing of my former law partner and friend for 11 years, Louie Davis. The Houston Office tax team of Baker & McKenzie shared the west wall of the Bank of America building with Louie’s oil and gas team, which gave me the welcome opportunity to see and speak with Louie almost every day.  He was a kind, courteous and genuine man with a ready smile and infectious enthusiasm. He taught me much about the nuances of oil and gas conveyancing inasmuch as his knowledge of the subject was truly encyclopedic. My prayers and heartfelt condolences extend to Cary and the Davis family. We will all miss Louie very much.

The first time that I met Louie Davis was when he interviewed me in the summer of 1990 for a position at Louis Davis & Associates.  About two weeks later, he called me an offered me a job.   For the next 28 years, I worked with and for Louie Davis.   He was my mentor when it came to the oil and gas business.  I learned a lot from his work ethic of hard work and doing your best for your client.  During our 28-year journey, on at least two occasions, offers came to Louie to join a larger law firm, and when he accepted, he insisted that he be able to bring me along.   Likely, my fondest memory can be summed up in the phrase "he always had my back."   I know there were times that I kept my job, received a pay raise, was given a bigger office, ect... because Louie spoke on my behalf.    I remember, in casual conversations, he would often refer to me as his "buddy."   After Louie announced his upcoming retirement in 2018, it was time for me to make a change.   So, as i was leaving the firm to make my most recent job transfer in 2019, Louie drafted a very nice email regarding my departure and sent it to the firm.  He concluded by saying "We are going to miss you buddy."   Well, now it is my turn to say to him, "Louie, we are going to miss you buddy."  

To Cary, children and family: my deepest condolences to you. May you find comfort and peace in the years Louie graced us with his one-of-a-kind presence and in the Lord. I had many wonderful moments with Louie from work-related at Baker McKenzie, to lunches, getting a ride with him, to him attending my wedding. Louie was a pure gentleman with an impeccable decorum and presentation. He made you feel like you were the most important person with his attentive stare as you spoke followed by the biggest smile and laugh you could ever see. He taught us so much about building relationships, kindness and professionalism. I am blessed to have received multiple endorsements from him and to call him a mentor and friend. Louie was one of my favorite clients and will be deeply missed. My thoughts are with Cary and the rest of his family during this difficult time.

I loved being Louie’s law partner for 8 years, and friend for many more years.  I remember dreading  telling Louie, as my practice group leader, that I was leaving Thompson & Knight to start an oil and gas practice at Baker McKenzie, only to then nervously ask him to join me.  I was thrilled that he decided to come with me and bring most of our team along. Louie had an infectious enthusiasm about work and life.  Myra and I send our love and heartfelt condolences to Cary and the family.

I am not sure what to say that hasn't already been said. For those of you who know me, that is a rarity. Louie was a law partner of mine for 11-12 years at Baker McKenzie. He was the consummate professional and a pleasure to work with. The epitome of dignity and class. One of my good memories of Louie was on our Baker trips to NYC and London where we "competed" to see how many shows we could squeeze in after our meetings (r even if we had to skip a meeting here or there). You'd be amazed how many we got in! That said,  prayers and condolences for the Davis family.  May he rest in peace.

Louie was my law partner and my friend.  He will be fondly remembered for the outstanding qualities that defined him as a terrific lawyer and a wonderful person.  He was very smart, well read,  highly inquisitive,  soft spoken,  courteous,  friendly, spiritual, and had a unquenchable thirst for knowledge.  Louie was one of the few people I was honored to know who rarely said anything that reflected poorly on another.  His reticence was often disarming, because when he had something to share with others his words were on point and well reasoned.   
When Louie retired from the practice of law he and Cary wasted no time doing the things they loved to do, and they did them together.  
Louie was taken away far too soon, but his memory will be a blessing for all of us who were privileged to know him.

All of Louie's Scuba Diving friends at Gigglin' Marlin will truly miss him!  His energy, excitement and happiness are unmatched.   We are in shock of the news and so very sad.  We are very thankful he and his family were able to travel to so many amazing diving destinations together over the past few years.  I will miss our planning phone calls coordinating all the details of his next adventure!  He was an incredible man and will be deeply missed.

Louie was a very important influence on my life. He inspired my love for the water, including boating, sailing, and scuba diving. As a kid he taught me how to back a trailer, how to drive a boat, and how to pull a water skier. He invited me to come watch my sister and him learn to scuba dive in the 1970's (and I knew then I was going to do that some day ... scuba is a big part of my life today). Aside for all of these personal memories, Louie was a role model in terms of caring and praising others. He was a brother (in law) and GREAT friend to me, all of my life. I loved him so much. I'm so saddened to hear this news.  Louis was an amazing lawyer, but more importantly, a kind, caring man of integrity.  I had the pleasure of working with Louis during his time at Baker McKenzie, and he had a way of making us all feel special.  His smile and warmth lit up the room. I was blessed to have him as my law partner and dear friend for over ten years. Louie was one of the kindest, most supportive  people - and best lawyer - I have ever known. His judgement on legal and life issues was impeccable, and I never enjoyed working with anyone on cases as much as I did Louie Davis.  The world has lost a truly unique and lovely human being. Always steadfast, always caring, always loyal, Louie was my friend, my advisor, and my confidant.  He was my brother, the best, and my love for him, our family's love for him, abides forever.

Louie was one of the nicest persons I ever knew.  I met Louie my freshman year at Southwestern University and became a Pi Kappa Alpha brother.  I attended his wedding to Cary and remember it as a very special event and one of the most elegant I ever attended.  Teresa and I were so saddened to hear of his passing and our prayers go out to Cary and the family.

Louis was my freshmen resident advisor in the Herman Brown dorm and then he was instrumental in my being invited to join the fraternity.  My wife, Sandy, became a Little Sister of PKA and we shared many happy times with Louie and Cary.  Louis was a man of strong character, impeccable integrity and a special friend to all.  We will always remember his unique sense of humor and warm and inviting smile that made you feel special and welcome.  Godspeed Brother Louie...we will miss you!
