Louie, an Arkansas native, was born in 1936. He earned his Bachelor's of Arts in Physics and Mathematics from Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas, and later a Master's and Ph.D. in Physics at Case Institute of Technology in Cleveland, Ohio. He taught physics at Centenary College in Shreveport, Louisiana for twelve years. During his tenure there, he taught nuclear medicine at the V.A. Hospital in Shreveport and consulted for N.A.S.A. at the Johnson Space Center. He later served as Chief Engineer at Petroleum Associates of Louisiana in Lafayette, Louisiana and as Executive Vice-President at Nuclear Monitoring Systems and Management Corporation in Houston, Texas. Returning to academia, he taught physics for twenty-seven years at the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas, receiving the designation of Professor Emeritus of Physics upon his retirement.
Louie served as a deacon at Long Point Baptist Church and later at Tallowood Baptist Church in Houston, Texas. In addition to his duties as deacon, he also enjoyed teaching in the Enduring Faith Sunday School Class and working in the Prayer Room ministry and the Treasures Class, special needs ministry.
He is preceded in death by his parents Jessie and Louie Galloway, Jr., brother-in-law Truman Smith, and niece Melanie Smith.
Louie is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Harriett; daughter Vickie and husband Russell Burnett; sons: Louie IV and Mack; grandchildren: Stephen Burnett, Jeannie Burnett, Louie Galloway V, Courtney Galloway, and Erin Galloway. He is also survived by his sister Lynn Smith and niece Charlotte Smith; cousins: Harold Ed Mitchell and wife Renee, and Carrie June Harper.
The visitation was held at Waltrip Funeral Directors, 1415 Campbell Road, Houston, TX 77055, on January 5, 2018 from 5pm to 7pm. The memorial service was held at Tallowood Baptist Church on January 6, 2018 at 11am with Pastor Duane Brooks and Associate Pastor Larry Bertrand officiating. The graveside service was held at Graceland Cemetery in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, on January 13, 2018 at 2pm and officiated by Brother Harold Ed Mitchell.
In lieu of flowers, donations were requested to Gracewood (Christian ministry and shelter for homeless mothers and their children) located at 1617 Elmview, Houston, TX 77080-7222. However, if one should wish to send flowers, the family requested that plants or artificial flowers be sent, due to allergy considerations.
