Lois Past Turner, beloved wife, mother, grandmother great grandmother and friend went to her Heavenly home on February 1, 2019. She was 79 years old. She is survived by her husband Mark, daughters Beverly Hughes and Sharyn Jones, son Dean Darrow, stepsons Steven, Michael and Jeffery Turner and sisters Carole DeFoor and Gayle Kellar. She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She loved all of her children equally and took great delight in being in their presence and sharing their stories and adventures. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Joan.
Lois was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 31, 1939 to Frederick and Maxine Past. Her early education was obtained in Lutheran schools in Chicago. The family relocated to Houston in 1955 where she completed her junior and senior years at Aldine High School. She continued her education at Houston Community College and the University of Houston. As a realtor she earned the professional designations of CRB, CRS and GRI. She was also certified as a Real Estate Brokerage Manager. Lois had a long and varied career. For five years she was the secretary for the school at St. Mark Lutheran Church. She also served as a government and public affairs representative for Foster and Kleiser, a billboard company. For many years, until her retirement, she worked as an award winning realtor for Gary Greene and Coldwell Banker United real estate agencies. She also managed a large Coldwell Banker office in Houston.
Lois was an active church worker. She raised funds for both the church and school and for the building of Lutheran High North. She initiated the first singles group at St. Mark and participated in creating the First Impressions and Stephen Ministries.
She met her loving husband Mark at St. Mark and they were married on November 24, 1979. They both loved the outdoors and camping and traveled all over the United States and a large portion of Canada, England and Scotland reveling in God’s creations.
A visitation will be held in her honor on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. inside of St. Mark Lutheran Church, 1515 Hillendahl Boulevard, Houston, Texas 77055. The Celebration of Life service will begin at 11:00 a.m. inside of St. Mark Lutheran Church.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donation be made in Lois name to St. Mark Lutheran School.
A private interment is scheduled for Monday, February 11, 2019.
