Lois M. Brown passed away at home on May 1, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. Lois is now reunited with the love of her life, John F. Brown Sr. and her son John F. Brown, Jr., who preceded her in death
Lois was born in St. Louis, MO. on February 25, 1935, to William and Anna (Musterman) McCorkell, and was the youngest of 7 children. On February 14, 1953, she married John F. Brown and spent the next nearly 66 years happily married to the love of her life.
Lois is survived by her children; Lynneece and Dan Rooney, Renee and Sean Slattery, & Jeff and Laura Brown. Lois cherished her 12 grandchildren Shannon (David) Plakos, Heather (Patrick) Day, Daniel (Becky) Rooney, Shane (Melissa) Rooney, John Rooney, John (Trey) Brown III, Meghan (Aaron) Mullane, Kathleen (Jacob) Catlett, Courtney Slattery, Kelsey Slattery, Zach Brown and Josh Brown, and her 9 great grandchildren Ryan Plakos, Patrick Plakos, Kaitlyn Plakos, Hannah Rooney, Erin Rooney, Everett Mullane, Anna Mullane, Emmerson Mullane and Molly Rooney.
Mom said that the best part of her life was marrying John and the birth of her four children.
She was a devoted Mother, Grand Mother, and Great Grand Mother. Lois and John were lifelong members of the Catholic Church. In St. Louis at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church
and in Houston at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church.
Lois was a wonderful homemaker and mother and raised their 4 kids while Dad worked. Due to dad’s work, Mom and Dad spent a lot of time traveling. They were able to travel to many places in the States, but also traveled abroad to many places, including Switzerland, England, Spain, Germany, Austria and Scotland, but Mom’s favorite place to travel to was Breckenridge, Colorado. Lois & John had a place in Breckenridge where they spent the summers and entertained many of their family and friends.
Lois truly loved her family and would arrange many family gatherings in St. Louis to reconnect with the extended family there. She also always had a full house during the holidays and had many extended family members (friends) who were always welcomed.
John and Lois had been members of Lakeside C.C. since 1976. Lois loved playing golf and was very competitive. She had several Holes in One throughout her life. She enjoyed playing with the ladies’ group on Tuesdays and with John on the weekends when they would have couples play.
At the age of 79, mom had a lung transplant. Mom courageously had this life saving operation to be sure she could be around to take care of dad. We were blessed to have 10 extra years with mom due to the generosity of the family that donated a matching lung. We would like to thank the Houston Methodist Transplant team for the wonderful work they did on the initial surgery and the following years of follow up care.
We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Heather, one of mom’s granddaughters, for taking such loving care and leading us in the care of mom during her final days.
Funeral Mass for Lois will be held at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church at 11720 Joan of Arc Houston, TX 77024 on Thursday, May 30th @ 10:30 am with reception to follow in the community center at the church.
Mom requests that in lieu of flowers that donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Shriners Childrens’ charities, or to a charity of your choice in her memory.
