Linda Ruth Pitre entered her new life on the morning of July 31, 2017. She was the first and only daughter born to Margie Kennerson and John Baker on October 27, 1952 in New Orleans, Louisiana. After moving to Houston, TX., her mother married Jewel Lockett, who loved and guided her into adulthood. Linda accepted Christ at an early age and this acceptance would ultimately lay a foundation for her unyielding service to the Lord and His people. A product of the Houston Independent School District, Linda began her formal education at Turner Elementary. She was a part of the first integrated class at Cullen Middle School in 1966, and graduated from Jack Yates Senior High School in 1971. Her post-graduate studies include a certificate in Office Management / Administration. This accomplishment positioned her to become an extraordinary administrator, as she excelled for more than thirty years in this profession. On December 16, 1972, Linda married the love of her life, Kenneth Pitre, and together they were blessed with three wonderful children and nine grandchildren. From 1985 to1989, Linda and Kenneth (affectionately known as “Peach”) influenced many other children and young adults through their volunteer work with the neighborhood little league team, the Windsor Eagles. Through the following years, they remained involved in their children’s and grandchildren’s extracurricular activities, and Linda could be heard cheering loudly in the stands during countless track meets, football and basketball games. She loved her family and creating memories with them was her greatest joy. Linda was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, colleague, trusted friend and Believer. For many years, Linda was a homemaker, choosing not to leave her young children in daycare. When her children were school-aged, she joined the staff at St. James Episcopal School and worked there until 1999, when she began working for Stewart Title until her retirement in 2014. Linda’s legacy is “active service” to the Lord. She could always be found pitching in, taking action, and helping others whenever needed. In 1991, Linda and her family joined Bissonnet Baptist Church, under the leadership of her dear friends, the late Pastor Steven E. Crampton and his wife Bertha. She was a dedicated member whose service included youth ministry, usher board, women’s ministry, choir, and administration. In 1998, she became a founding member of New Beginning Community Baptist Church under Founding Pastor, Aubrey Rose. She continued to serve diligently as the church administrator under current pastor, Rev. Murdock Smith, Jr., until her transition from this life. Linda was preceded in death by her biological father, John Baker and brothers John (“Clarkie”) and Arthur (“Wayne”). To cherish her loving memory, she leaves behind her parents; Jewel and Margie Lockett; her devoted husband of 45 years, Kenneth Pitre; loving son Rohan (LaToya), and beautiful daughters Tangeia Benson and Kenda Pickens (Erroll); nine grandchildren: Jared, Jason, and Jordan Benson, Xavier, Croix and Maddox Pitre, Charles “CJ” Bates, Jr., Amari and Ryan Pickens; siblings, Mike, Donny, Chad and Chandra. She also leaves behind a host of colleagues, church members, relatives and friends. She will be missed dearly.
