Linda grew up and graduated high school in Raymondville, Texas. She continued her education at Texas A&I University in Kingsville, TX, and graduated in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with an endorsement in Language and Learning Disabilities. After teaching for many years, Linda pursued and completed her Masters of Education as an Educational Diagnostician at Houston Baptist University. She retired from the public school system after 25 years of service.
In 2006, Linda joined Toastmasters and fulfilled educational and leadership roles within District 56, overcoming a visual impairment which appeared later in life. She earned many awards and offices within Toastmasters including the Suzy Gormley achievement award for Best Toastmaster, District 56 Outstanding President award, Distinguished Area O-13 Governor status, Select Distinguished Division O Governor, Toastmasters International Excellence in Marketing and Excellence in Education and Training, 2 DTMs, D56, LGM, LGET, as well as Secretary, Vice President (Education, Membership), and President of SST.
Linda dedicated her life to leading, serving, and educating others. She loved life and her Christian family at Bammel Road Church of Christ. Her family and friends were cherished and will always remember her glorious smile, lively spirit, “come closer” sense of humor, memory, melodious gifted voice, willingness to step up to a challenge, loyalty, and her guiding hand.
Linda is survived by her husband of 40 years, Doyle C. Peake, her daughter Lara G. and husband Michael Taylor, grandchild Viola M. Taylor. Other survivors include Nora Jo, Nelda, and Jerry Hudspeth, Gloria and Bob Wallace, Jane Rayburn, Rachel Rabinowitz, Suzie Smith, Patty Willason, and numerous friends and family.
Visitation will be 5:30-8:30pm Tuesday, October 1, 2013, at Bammel Road Church of Christ: 2700 FM 1960 West, Houston, TX, 77068; 281-440-1910. Memorial Service will be at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at Bammel Road Church of Christ.
