Ileana Carolina Cardenas (affectionately known by family and friends as Lily), 27, entered into eternal peace on Saturday September 10, 2016. A memorial service will be held at Brookside Memorial Park on Thursday September 15, 2016 at 5:00 pm. Burial service will be on Friday September 16, 2016 at 11:00 am. A celebration of life will follow after the burial.
Lily was born to Maria Gonzalez and Antulio Cardenas on August 10th, 1989 in Houston, Texas. She is survived by her siblings Carol, Eduardo, Silvia, Cristina, Keren, Chris, Josue, Daniel and her beloved dog (son) Dynamo. She is remembered as a loving sister and aunt to all her nieces and nephews.
Lily graduated from Waltrip High School in 2007 where she proceeded to join the US Army. She was assigned to the 2nd Brigade Special Troops Battalion (BSTB) 10th Mountain Division and deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. She completed her term of 3 years in the Army.
Lily graduated from Texas A&M University-Central Texas where she received her bachelor’s in Business Administration Accounting. She combined both her experience and degree in her successful career professionally. Lily was hired in 2013 by Midway as an Associate, Financial Operations. Lily was a cherished and loved member of the Midway Family. Her work family played an important role in her cancer journey.
Lily was full of life and lived every day to the fullest finding joy in a very active lifestyle. She was involved in marathons, enjoyed playing soccer and loved to dance. She had a gentle and stubborn spirit. Her determination and fight where clearly defined in everything she did. Lily had a strong Faith in God. It was in the pursuit to grow in her enteral walk that she found community and support at Lakewood Church and became a member of the youth group. Lily’s love for her heavenly Father was persistent and unwavering. It was that Faith that was reflected in how she loved and impacted others.
Lily will forever live in our hearts and we will remember her tenacious energetic spirit, infectious smile, tireless drive, and joy in her own journey.
