Lester graduated from La Grange High School. Lester then served in the Air Corp of the United States Army during World War II reaching the rank of Second Lieutenant . He had a long career in the Oil and Gas Industry, retiring as Vice President at the Galveston Houston Company. He traveled the world during his career and retirement. Lester learned at a young age the joy of working with his hands from his father, a blacksmith. Always in motion, Lester developed skills in making furniture, stained glass, and numerous projects especially with wood.
Lester, affectionately called Papa , loved to play card and domino games. He was, of course, very good at them and always kept us entertained with his goofy “Dad” jokes. He was a Christian, dedicated, thoughtful, generous and loving. He will be missed greatly. However, he lived a blessed life of over 95 years. Now he is in Heaven with Bettye, his soulmate, living the eternal life with God.
Lester was preceded in death by his wife Bettye Lenert; son Wade Lenert; brother Leroy and wife Alice Lenert; brother Lloyd and wife Genelle Lenert. Lester is survived by son Clifford and wife Judith Lenert; son Troy and wife Sharon Lenert; stepdaughter Linda and husband Steve Kramer; stepson Gary and wife Donna Kramer; sister Valora Smith; grandson Lance and wife Megan Lenert, granddaughters Melissa Lenert and Taryn Lenert; step-grandchildren Kari Sams, Kelli Sams and Alexandra Kramer; great grandchildren Grace Lenert, Chloe Lenert, Oliver Lenert, and Aidan Halmai; and many nieces and nephews.
