Leonard Julius Walker was the first-born son of six siblings to the late Amos Walker, Sr. and the late Izola Felix-Walker on June 16,1935 in Opelousas, Louisiana. He was known as “Hicks” or “Walker” amongst his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his three sisters Joann Williams (Walker), Elise Mae Gillory (Walker), Dora Lou Walker, and his brother Amos “Billy” Walker Jr., and his daughter Jacqueline Marie Walker (1962-2007). Leonard graduated from J.S. Clark High School in Opelousas, Louisiana and later joined the United States Army in 1958.
He worked as a Medic and ran track (hurdles) for the U.S. Army in Europe and honorably discharged from the Army in 1964. In 1966, he was an extremely popular Barber in Houston, Texas and cut his last head of hair in 2017. In 1967, Leonard got his certification in Upholstery, and he had his own Upholstery business in Houston and Baytown, Texas for over 50 years. Leonard met the love of his life, Evelyn Matthews Walker, in 1970 and they shared 52 years of marriage together. Their love was a shining example of devotion, and their bond was unbreakable.
Leonard was an extremely funny person, and he could keep you laughing for hours. He could remember “EVERYTHING” and had remarkable stories to tell about “EVERYONE”! He “LOVED” music, specifically the Blues and every Sunday morning with the music “blasting” all day. He loved B.B. King, but he was also a huge fan of Gary Clark Jr. Some people have said he was a good dancer, but there is not any video evidence of that. He loved cars, vans, and motor homes. He once owned over “Twenty” cars at one time, and he liked his cars “OLD”. He was a good drinking buddy, even when he held the same beer in his hand for over “Three” hours. He was great at barbecuing, frying chicken wings, shrimp, pork chops, and making gumbo. He is and always will be unforgettable! He will be missed.
On Wednesday, September 27th, Leonard made the transition to eternal rest.
He is survived by his loving spouse, Evelyn, their daughter Stacey Lyn Walker, his son Michael Wayne White, and his brother Jerome Wayne Walker. He has left behind a host of nieces and nephews. Leonard's memory will be cherished by his family and friends, and his influence will continue to guide and inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.
