Leonard Wayne Gunderson entered into rest on August 21, 2022. Leonard was born on June 4, 1948 in Houston, TX and lived in the Heights area of Houston until a heart transplant in 2012 brought him to Georgetown, TX to be closer to Baylor Scott & White Temple Transplant Center.
Leonard attended Alamo Elementary, Hamilton Junior High and Reagan High School. After graduating from Reagan, Leonard attended DeVry Institute of Technology in Phoenix, AZ. He retired from a long career with SWBT/AT&T as a comm-tech switchman in 2005.
He was involved in the Boy Scouts of America from the time he was in Cub Scout Pack 46 (Heights Lions Club), Boy Scout Troop 30 (St. Mark’s UMC) and Explorer Scouts where he achieved Order of the Arrow and Silver Beaver level honors. He remained involved in scouting as an adult by volunteering to cook at various camping functions, many times as the lead meal planner/cook where he was often referred to as “Len” or “Gundo”.
Leonard also had a vast knowledge base on snakes and frequently lectured on them at local clubs.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, Gunder and Clara Gunderson. He is survived by sisters Linda Gunderson and Debra Moore; nieces Amanda Pennell (and family) and Marci Moore (and family). Leonard will be greatly missed by Kit, his beloved cat, who comforted him and amused him with her antics.
Special thanks to the Baylor Scott & White Transplant Center coordinators and secretaries who did everything in their power to make his many appointments, procedures and hospital stays as comfortable as possible. They are truly angels on earth.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Boy Scouts of America Troop 30 and/or The Mended Hearts, Inc.
