On Monday August 22, 2022 Leona Mae Alfred Franklin peacefully transitioned from her earthly tabernacle to be with her heavenly father. She was born on December 22, 1954 as the first born to Castain and Alberta Alfred in Whitesville Louisiana. The Alfred family later resided in Houston Texas where she accepted Christ into her life at an early age as she was baptized at Morning Star Baptist Church. Later in her life as an adult she transferred her membership to the Providence Missionary Baptist Church in Houston Texas under the leadership of Pastor Jerry Wade where she remained faithful until her last day.
Leona was a proud graduate of M.B. Smiley High School and afterwards she attended San Jacinto College. After her college career she accepted a job with the North Forest School District as a Paraprofessional where she served for over 25 years. Some of her greatest moments was spent traveling, going to the movies, eating out for dinner and also enjoy eating her mother’s good food. There was never a time when talking to her that she did not express how she loved her pastor and her church. She would always attend family gatherings as she had a love for spending time with her family, but if anyone knew Leona they knew her greatest joy was her daughter.
She married Robert Hamilton and to this union they had one child Lisa Donyell Hamilton. Leona was proceeded in death by her father Castain Alfred Sr. her late husband Ben Franklin and a very close friend Sanford Dupaty who had a special place in her heart.
Leona leaves to cherish her memories her daughter Lisa Hamilton, mother Alberta Alfred, brother Castain Alfred Jr.(Sharon), Sister Sheila Barnes (Dwayne), sister Kathy Rodney (Willie), brother Carey Alfred (Edie), sister Jennifer Norris (Phil), God brother Roy Merritt (Kamie), God sister Carol Jackson (Harold), a host of nieces/nephews and family and friends that adored her so greatly.
