Deep down in the hills of a beautiful Brenham, Texas, on the twenty-second day of February, 1940 a precious son was born to the loving parents of Byrd and Elizabeth Lacy, whom they proudly named Leon Columbus Lacy. Leon confessed Christ at an early age was the last son to be born in the Lacy family,
Leon attend public school in Brenham and after completing high school he met the love of his life, Frankie Garcia and the two became one on January 28,1961. This union was blessed with five wonderful children and held together by God for 52 years.
Leon confessed Christ at an early age; he and his family joined True Light Church under Rev. Morrison, where all five children were baptized in a beautiful service. Leon rededicated his life to Christ, joining Greater Mount Olive Church under Rev. Byrd Lacy, Jr. He was ordained as a Deacon, sang in the choir, and drove the church van during bible school. He served his church in sickness and in health.
Leon was one of the first African Americans to be hired in the 1960’s to Hou-Transit/Rapid Transit, now known as Metro. During his 35 years (1966-2004) of dedicated service he received awards for driving without an accident, on time performance and other outstanding awards. After retiring he returned to First Transit briefly and worked as bus cleaner, Leon was not to proud to wash the buses, he had the privilege of driving for so many years.
Leon later threw in the towel and became a fulltime family man, washing dishes, taking out trash, making coffee for his wife and waiting to watch “Live at Five” . Leon never met a stranger; he was a kind and gentle spirited man who will be greatly missed. There will never be another Leon C.
