Lena Faye Martin was born January 1, 1924 in Caldwell, TX to Rush and Lena Whaley, and passed away peacefully February 22, 2015 in Sugar Land, TX. She is now with her Blessed Savior and reunited with loved ones. Faye was preceded in death by her husband, Jack J. Martin, her brother Rush Whaley Jr. and sisters Maggie LeBlanc, Estelle Holcombe, Katherine Hunter, and Irene Whaley. She is survived by three brothers: Clyde Whaley, James Whaley, and Gerald Whaley, stepdaughter Joanne Walker, step grandchildren Cindy and Greg Walker, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Faye was a long time member of Second Baptist Church in Houston and Katy where she faithfully attended and sang in the choir. Faye was a proud Navy veteran, serving as a WAVE during World War II. After 30 years with the U.S. Postal Service she retired and became a top selling Avon distributor. She was a world traveler whose travel included a trip to the Holy Land. During her travels, she and Jack fell in love with Hawaii, but her heart was always in Texas.
A viewing will be held March 1, 2015 from 5:00-8:00 pm at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home. A memorial service is scheduled for March 2, 2015 at noon at Second Baptist Church, 19449 Katy Freeway Houston, TX. She will be buried with military honors at Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Second Baptist Church.
