Lawrence Monroe DeHay, Jr. went to meet all of his heavenly family on March 29, 2023. He was born on February 20, 1940 in Fresno California to Lucile and Lawrence DeHay. His early years were spent surrounded by his sister Virginia Ann and his dad’s parents Lula and James DeHay. In 1946 the DeHay family returned to Dallas to open Forest Avenue Furniture store. Larry graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School. He graduated as a distinguished military graduate 2nd in commend of ROTC. Larry graduated from Texas Tech University in 1961. While at Tech he was a member of the Saddle Tramps and a proud member of Phi Gamma Delta. Texas Tech is where he met his soon to be wife, Robbie Hubbard. They were married for 62 wonderful years. Larry served in the 5th Infantry division of the United States Army at Ft Carson, Colorado where he was company commander of Company C 1st BN 11th Infantry.
Larry had a long and successful career in the financial services industry as a stockbroker. During his career, he worked alongside his longtime business partner and friend C.J. Lamonte. They represented many large brokerage firms, including Kidder Peabody, Shearson Lehman, and Smith Barney. Larry retired as Vice President of Investments from Morgan Stanley in 2022 after more than 50 years in the business.
A few of his favorite things were Woodrow Wilson HS golf group outings twice a year. Saturday golf at Raveneaux Country Club where he served as president of the golf association. Most Saturdays were spend at Raveneaux playing “Putting for Dollars”, Wolf, Skins and other challenging games of Golf. On Sundays he and Robbie played golf with couple friends. His Raveneaux buddies gave him so much joy. He also enjoyed twice monthly poker group. Tennis at SORA. Coaching softball and umpiring little league. Years at ‘Paradise Emerald Bay’ with the Stranges and Harlans. Yearly trips to the Homestead in Virginia with the Robbs. Christmas Eve family sleepovers.
His greatest joy was his family. He was married to Robbie Hubbard for 62 years and they had two amazing daughters, Danice and Laura.
Larry is proceeded in death by his son James Vernon, his parents and grandparents. He leaves behind his greatest treasures to remember his honorable and caring ways of life, wife Robbie, children Danice Boeker, her husband Ben Boeker, Laura Mize, her husband Shawn Mize. Grandchildren Christopher Boeker, Amy Moschak (Rhye), Lawrence Mize, Brandt Mize, Markie Mize, great-granddaughter Kennedy Kay Moschak, and his sister Virginia Patton.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at 2pm at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, 12800 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX, 77077.
The family requests donations to be made to the Fistula Foundation and Camp Hope.
