Larry was born to Bernice and Walter Peterson on December 27, 1946 and raised in Houston, Texas. He graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1965 having proudly served as the elected butt-end of school mascot “Stevie” with many appearances at Austin’s competitive sporting events. Larry maintained close school relationships and spent some very happy hours with fellow Austin Mustangs during his lifetime.
After graduating from the University of Houston in 1971, he began his term of duty with the US Marine Reserves later receiving an honorable discharge for service to his country.
In early marriage to Diane, he began a long and successful career in helping plan and provide electrical energy to communities around Houston, first with Reliant Energy and later as independent consultant to developers of both residential and commercial properties.
Larry is survived by his two sons Chris (Nichole) and Travis (Kay), and four grandchildren Luke, Kendall, Brooks and Andi who truly adored their grandfather “Pops”. He also leaves older brother Terry (Bj) to remember him lovingly. Both parents, all uncles and most cousins preceded him in death.
Larry spent over 65 years happily hunting in Fredericksburg, parts of South and West Texas and out of state always joined by equally happy family members and forever friends. He earned and enjoyed a favored reputation for lip-smacking-good down home cooking, and was frequently requested to be chief chef on small group land and sea excursions including the Greek islands. More recently as blond hair turned silver, he enjoyed the lingering company of his Lake Mallard Buddies whether the fishing was good or not. Larry rounded out his interests by becoming a well-liked duplicate bridge player achieving the sought after rank of ACBL Life Master.
In the past few years all family and people in Larry’s life knew without doubt the small cuddly and extremely spoiled Lulu who was shared with CC, was the canine love of his life.
However else Larry has spent his time and cancer-diminished energies in the sunset of his life, his most treasured moments have been and always were with Chris, Travis, and those who fondly called him Pops.
