On Tuesday, September 17, 2024, Landon “Chip” passed away in Katy, Texas at the age of 64. He was born in Galena Park, Texas on February 19, 1960, to Frances Margaret and Landon Vardo Davis, Jr. As a native Houstonian he was proud of his Texas heritage and embodied the old-time Texas, cowboy spirit, frequently being compared to Tommy Lee Jones in looks, speech, and demeanor.
Landon graduated from Northshore High School in 1978. He began working as a carpenter for a homebuilder before starting his own home construction and remodeling business for that he ran for several years. Later he took his perfectionist skills to a new career by becoming a welder for Liftmoore Truck Crane in Houston. The work was physically hard but, he enjoyed the friendship of his coworkers and company benefits that he had never had before.
Chip had a lifelong love of racing cars, music, animals, the Houston Astros, the Texans, and John Wayne movies. His biggest hobbies of all were cooking and barbecuing. He loved to tend the pit, drink beer, and listen to music or games on the weekend while cooking enough food to last for weeks. Neighbors became aware of the dinner menu by the delicious smelling smoke wafting out the driveway.
Chip started riding motorcycles as a young boy, moving up to riding motocross competitively, and finally settling down to Harley-Davidsons. Even after a serious accident in 2014, that did not deter him from purchasing another Harley that he loved dearly. He also had a soft spot for all animals, especially ones that needed a home. The phrase, “What’s one more?” was repeated frequently at home until it began to resemble a rescue shelter. As they aged and crossed the Rainbow Bridge, the loss of each beloved friend affected him deeply. Hopefully, they have found each other again.
Landon was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John Davis. He is survived by long-time partner and love of his life, Susan Brown; sisters, Louisa Hocutt, Avery Davis- Fletcher (Harry), Meg Clements (Randy); a brother, Jim Davis (Rosemary); daughter, Amy VanNoller (John); two grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
Chip is gone from this world too soon but, he lived by the belief that, “Money and fame may be the shiniest stones in the mountain stream but, health and happiness are the most precious.” -- Crusoe
