Labibe Azzam, 97, passed into eternal rest on May 14, 2021. She was born January 1, 1924 in Acre, Palestine to parents Salim Chaaya and Mariam Shahin. She lived in Lebanon before moving to Houston July 12, 1972. Labibe was widowed at age 33, with five young children. St. George Orthodox Christian Church was her home church. Needlepoint, sewing, gardening, swimming and fishing were her passions.
Labibe was preceded in death by her son Raymond Azzam and husband Boutros Azzam. Left to cherish her memory are daughters: Nadia Khalaf, Mary Shamieh, Farha Azzam; son Nabil Azzam; grandchildren: Caroline Khalaf, Mazin Khalaf, Joumaneh Henderson, Lilian Martin, Huda Faramond, Mousa Shamieh, Munther Shamieh, Lama Karkar, Dr. Maisa Shuhaibar, Dr. Bashar Shamieh, Mitri Azzam, Peter Azzam, Mayada Bazargani, Marcella Guzman, Paul Azzam, Dr. Pierre Azzam, Patrick Azzam; brother Gabby Chaaya; great-grandchildren: Dr. Basil Khalaf, Dr. Shaden Khalaf-Eadeh, Nicole Khalaf, Dr. Jessica Khalaf, Kristen Salti, Catherine Khalaf, Natasha Henderson, Carl Henderson, Ethan Henderson, James Martin, William Martin, Dr. Andrew Faramond, Dr. Ziad Faramond, Salem Shamieh, Bana Shamieh, Nada Shamieh, Zayd Shamieh, Noor Shamieh, Meera Karkar, Michael Karkar, Sani Karkar, Elena Shuhaibar, Reina Shuhaibar, Marianne Shamieh, Anthony Bazargani, Michael Bazargani, Isabella Guzman, Juliet Azzam, Noah Azzam; great-great-grandchildren: Charles Eadeh, Theodore Salti, Munther Faramond, Miria Faramond.
Family and friends will gather for services at St. George Orthodox Christian Church, 5311 Mercer Street, Houston, Texas 77005 on Wednesday, May 19, 2021. Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. to extend overnight, with a service at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be Thursday, May 20, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. at Brookside Memorial Park, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, Texas 77039.
