LC Anthony Gaines was born July 3,1929 in Waskom, Texas to the late Merkerson Gaines Sr. and Ethel Mae Harris. He was the third child of seven children. LC married his first wife, Queen Esther Paschal, March 1950. With this union, a son was born, Johnny Lewis Gaines, September 28, 1950. The following year, LC enlisted with the U.S Army to serve his county, from 1951 -1953. After the Army, LC made a career with Ford Motor Company, in Long Beach California where he worked until retirement, April 1980.LC married Shirley Thomas in 1958 and had a son, Anthony Gaines. LC and Queen reunited in July of 2000, where they remained married, living in Houston, TX until death did them part.
LC loved going to the Sam Houston Racetrack to watch and bet on the horses. He enjoyed listening to the blues and following the musical talents of the Gaines family. He loved to cook, grill and barbecue. He frequently watched the food channel to experiment with new recipes. LC’s spark was with his grandson Chris, “Wutie”, and the long talks they had.
Wednesday, September 13, 2023, LC peacefully departed from this life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Merkerson Gaines Sr. and Ethel Mae Harris, his son Johnny Gaines, sisters Reba Jones Glosser and Adrena Carter and brothers Merkerson Gaines Jr., Grady Gaines and Roy Gaines.
He is survived by his wife, Queen Esther Gaines; Son, Anthony Gaines, Stepdaughter, Denise Hamilton (Michael); Sister, Wilkie Hartwell; Grandchildren, Jaimey Gaines, Rebecca Guidry (Marc), Joseph Faust, Christopher “Wutie” Moffit; two great grandchildren and a host of special nieces and nephews.
