Kevin Michael Rapp, born in Houston, Texas to Marsha and Sam Rapp on December 16, 1976, entered the gates of heaven on February 21, 2019 at the age of 42. Kevin is survived by his loving wife, Ami; three children, Robert and Caroline, age six and Vivian, age two; parents, Marsha and Sam; sister, Erin Bradford (Philip); and grandmother Irene Rapp. He leaves behind many cherished aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and in-laws who loved him like a son.
Growing up, Kevin attended Westbury Church of Christ with his family where he met his future wife, Ami Kingery, in the youth group. He graduated from Sharpstown High School. He later attended Houston Community College and the University of Houston. He started working as a security guard at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston and soon learned the technology of the museum’s security systems. Kevin progressed through the MFAH Security Department, where he eventually became the Chief of Security. Kevin has been integral in the development and installation of the security systems in the ongoing expansion of MFAH. Kevin enjoyed his work, and was well respected by everyone he worked with at the Museum.
Kevin loved music and he loved it loud! He enjoyed anything from Beethoven to Stevie Ray Vaughn. He enjoyed sharing this passion with his kids. He liked working with tools and was good with his hands. He took pride in fixing or building things. He cherished the moments that he could teach his little ones what he could do. Kevin also enjoyed a round of golf or a game of darts. He loved pulling pranks -- things like resetting the wallpaper on his mother’s phone or setting the kitchen timer for after he left the house. There are endless stories of the laughter that he brought to his friends, co-workers and family.
Kevin was devoted to his family. He was a loving husband. He took every opportunity to show his affection for Ami. He loved her from the moment they met in sixth grade. They were opposite personalities that worked well to balance and to support each other. He was a father who cared dearly for Robert, Caroline, and Vivian. He spent every opportunity with them – playing, reading, singing, and building with Legos. They enjoyed going places and doing things as a family. He was always there for swimming and sports. He took an active role in their lives and was always looking for a new way to make memories. Above all, he showed them what it meant to love and be loved. They lost a truly great man and role model from their lives.
A celebration of Kevin’s life is planned for Monday, March 4, 2019 at the Westbury Church of Christ with family visitation beginning at 3:30 PM and a memorial service at 4:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made for the education of his children at paypal.me/pools/c/8cx3RYSci5.
