Kenneth Frank Edwin Stockton, loving husband, devoted father, adoring grandfather, caring son and brother, and faithful servant of Jesus Christ passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, the 28th of June, at the age of 68.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Judy; mother, Thelma; brother, Dennis and his wife Kathy; son Michael and his wife Krissy; son David and his wife Jennifer; grandchildren Cole, Jake, Will, Sam, and Wesley Kate. He was preceded in death by his father, W.K. “Bill” Stockton.
Ken was born in Cuero, Texas and grew up in Austin. At the age of 12, his family moved to Houston and lived in the Spring Branch area. He graduated from the University of Houston with a B.B.A. in Business and Real Estate, where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. He married Judy Uhl on the 20th of March 1971. They had a beautiful marriage, especially enjoying visiting their favorite places: Crested Butte, Colorado, Padre Island, and Sublime, Texas. Ken had many passions for life, among them, hunting, fishing, building friendships and real estate. But his true passion was for his family. Anything and everything he did was for his family. He loved every opportunity he had to pass on to his children and grandchildren his love for building towering bonfires, story telling, blazing new hiking trails, flying paper airplanes, enjoying sunsets, digging unnecessarily large holes on the beach, duct tape reconstruction - all with a diet cuba libre in hand.
Ken began his business career at the Houston Chamber of Commerce in 1967 in the Economic Development department and then went to work for Travelers Insurance Company. In 1971, he joined Ben G. McGuire & Company where he began his career in the commercial mortgage banking industry. He became President of Ben G. McGuire & Company in 1981. In 1985, he was a founding partner of Stockton, Luedemann, French, Jackson and West. The company was sold to Northmarq Capital in 1997, where Ken served as an Executive Vice President and was a member of the Board of Directors. He had a true passion for his work, but it was his ability to develop genuine friendships with his colleagues and clients that enabled him to love what he did. He was unyielding in his pursuit to get deals done the honest way, and he took great pride in the company’s role of helping to form the skyline of Houston and those of other cities across the country.
Ken was a member of Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church for twenty-six years where he saw both of his boys confirmed. Ken served the Church with dedication and was blessed to share an ever growing faith with his wife Judy. In recent years, Ken spent quiet times in the chapel talking with God and seeking his promised counsel. Ken was a man of joy and integrity. He was quick with a joke, thoughtful with words and had a meaningful handshake. Ken Stockton was one of a kind and will be missed greatly.
The funeral service is to be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Monday, the 2nd of July, in the sanctuary of Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, 11612 Memorial Drive in Houston, where Rev. Dave Steane, Executive Pastor, is to officiate. Prior to the service, during the one o'clock hour, the family will receive friends during a visitation in the Gathering Room. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of customary remembrances, donations in Ken’s name may be directed to M. D. Anderson Cancer Research, 1515 Holcombe Blvd., Houston, TX, 77030; Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, 11612 Memorial Dr., Houston, TX, 77024; or to the charity of one’s choice.
