Kenneth Culberson Sims, 88, born March 7, 1923, loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle. Son of Martin Culberson Sims, and Bethel Parsley Sims, went to be with his Lord on January 14, 2012.
He graduated from Latexo High School in 1940, and had served as President of Junior, Senior classes and FFA, lettered in basketball and baseball. During his senior year in high school, he and six FFA buddies had a band, The FFA Clodhoppers, and did a weekly broadcast on Radio Station KNET, in Palestine, Texas. He attended Texas A&M and was proud to be an Aggie, never missed attending an A&M football game until he was 85, but remained an avid fan by listening on the radio or television. He moved to Houston in 1941. In 1946, he began his employment at Houston Lighting and Power Co from which he retired in 1985 after 39 years of service. He also played 1st base on the HL&P softball team. In 1957, Don Jordan requested him to represent HL&P on the Calf Scramble Committee of the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo. He was a life member, with over 53 years of service.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Eugene F. Sims and Grandson, Kenneth. He is survived by his wife Wynn, sons, Charles and wife, Linda; and Tom; step-children Laura Baynham, husband Morgan, Sherry Christ, husband, Tom, Larry Edmondson; sisters June Cook, Cathy Massey. Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
The family wishes to thank caregivers, Yasmin and Cissy, for their devoted service to Kenneth & Wynn.
Pallbearers are Larry and Brian Edmondson, Justin Sims, Gene Sims, Raymond Massey, Tom Christ.
Honorary Pallbearers, Jerry Forbes, Gary Nesloney, Norman Bates, Michael Kinchen, Yasmin, Cissy, HLSR Calf Scramble Committee.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to First Christian Church, 4848 Preston Road, Pasadena, TX 77505 or to a charity of your choice.
Visitation will be at Forest Park Lawndale, Tuesday, January 17, 2012 from 7-9PM.
Services will be held at First Christian Church, Pasadena, Texas on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at 2PM.
