On November 6, 1948, Kenneth Beer began the adventure called life when his parents welcomed this bouncing baby boy into the world. And for Ken, life was an adventure and rarely a dull moment when he was around.
He was born in Lima, Peru but moved back to the States when he was not even a toddler because he could not tolerate goats milk. He spent much of his early childhood in Pittsburgh where he enjoyed his first taste of snow even if it was sometimes covered in black soot. From Pittsburgh, he moved to the East Coast of Florida where he fell in love with the ocean. As an adolescent and teenager he lived in Houston and graduated from Lamar High School. Whether he was surfing or sailing, he loved the water. Is it any wonder that he would enlist in the Navy? But he wasn’t just in love with water activities, he loved skiing and would become an expert skier thanks to being stationed in Alameda, CA where he could spend most of his free time skiing in Squaw Valley or Mammoth. And from that point on he continued enjoying time with family and friends on the slopes as often as possible. He joyfully used his Veterans benefits to learn to fly and pursued aviation both recreationally and professionally for years.
Ken made life an adventure whether he was on his Trek bike or surfing on his longboard or skiing the slopes of favorite places like Crested Butte, but his real adventures were the times spent with the people that mattered most - - his friends and family.
Ken will be missed by all that know him and love him. We will miss his spirit of generosity which he showed to every life that intersected with his. We will miss his sense of humor, his smile, his enthusiasm, and his passionate expression of his beliefs. But mostly we will miss that love that he freely gave to all the people in his life.
Ken is preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth Henry and Ann Minto Beer and his son, Kenneth Lewis Beer. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, D’Juanna Lewis Beer, his brother, Stephen Kent Beer, niece Elizabeth Fuentes (Ricky), great-niece Hallie Ortego (Brian), great-nephews Dylan and Joseph Fuentes, and great great-nephew Chandler Ortego.
We find peace knowing that Ken is now at peace and reunited with his son, Kenny.
Since Ken loved the outdoors, we will remember and celebrate his life with a graveside service, Saturday morning March 4th at 10:00 at Forest Park Funeral Home and Cemetery located at 12800 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX 77077.
