Kay Engle Medlin’s faith in Jesus has become sight. Kay entered heaven through the power and grace of Jesus on Thursday, March 5, 2020. She now has no more pain, nothing to fear, and no more weeping or suffering.
Kay was born in Tulsa, OK on February 18, 1941 to Wenona and Gilbert Engle. The Engles moved to Jackson, TN in 1955 and that’s where Kay made life-long friendships, friendships that lasted until the day she left this earth. Kay graduated from Jackson High School in 1959 and attended the University of Alabama (Roll Tide!) for two years until 1961 when Bob Medlin swept her off her feet and they were married on September 22, 1962.
Kay’s biggest aspiration in life was to be a mom and God blessed her with two sons, Scott and Stephen. Mom was so gregarious and her heart so big that she wasn’t just mom to us, she was mom to the whole neighborhood posse of kids in Nottingham Forest. She was the “Kool-Aid mom” and made our home a place where love lived and adventures were to be had.
Because Kay was the way she was, she had many families. Her blood family, the Abundant Life group at Tallowood Baptist Church, Nottingham Forest (really, the whole neighborhood), her James Avery family, and a host of other people who met her, were loved by her and became family.
Kay lived her life abundantly, never met a stranger, was a faithful wife to Bob for 33 years, considered humming an art form, and was not one to complain but always grateful. Her boot straps were snug, she wore her emotions on her sleeve, dressed and decorated with impeccable taste, and she dearly loved her grandkids. Nona Kay Engle Medlin was one of a kind and we will miss her.
A memorial service will be held at Tallowood Baptist Church on Tuesday, March 10, at 11:30 AM followed by a reception at the church. A burial ceremony will be held at Memorial Oaks Cemetery at 3:00 following the reception.
