Kay was a daughter, sister, friend, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin. We each have our own personal story of Kay, and it is almost impossible to properly summarize what she meant to each person in her life but the one common thread is that we all loved her dearly. From enduring childhood friends, to bonds made as a lifelong volunteer and all along her path each day, she loved us all with her whole heart. She was creative as an artist, cook, and teacher, and never at a loss for a new way to at least try something, usually with ingenious results. She never stopped wanting to learn more so she could teach more, and, in particular was a passionate advocate and supporter of finding preventions and cures for autism. Possessing an insatiable mind, and an incorrigible sense of humor, Kay was constantly laughing and wanting to bring that joy to others. After a much too long and courageous battle with illness and pain, Kay is now able to rest, leaving behind a legacy of love that crossed many circles and touched many people.
Kay was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 45 years, James Michael Maxwell. She is survived by her son, Clifton Rollin Maxwell and wife Melissa Phifer; daughter Marilyn Michele Maxwell; and two precious grandsons, Christopher and Lucas Maxwell. She also leaves behind her much-loved brothers, Gary and Cary Jones; sister, Jeanne Jacobus; and mother-in-law, Jean Peebles Maxwell; nieces; nephews and countless friends that she considered her family.
Kay is not here, but half of her heart is still with us. It is in the lives of her son, her daughter and grandsons. Kay’s heart is seared into the soul of all who knew her. Half of her heart is here, and the other half dwells with God.
The visitation will be on Friday, March 20, 2015 at Forest Park Westheimer from 5:00 pm to 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Forest Park Westheimer.
