Kathy Marlene Johnston, born May 27, 1953 in San Diego, California, passed away September 4, 2011 in Houston, Texas. “The artist’s life well-lived embraces the spiritual, the natural, and the quiet beauty of the unseen.” Kathy’s talents and creativity spanned her love of photography, her passion for music, and her compassion for people.
Kathy is survived by her loving wife, Dianna Ray; mother, Reba Johnston; sister, Candace Nelson and husband, Keith; nephew, Kevin Hooker and wife, Caroline; brother-in-law, Eddie Ray, and by numerous other family and friends.
Kathy’s energy went to, and came from, giving. It’s unimaginable how one life could cross so many boundaries and touch the spirit of so many people. Her compassion and love transformed lives. May we carry that spirit forward in her honor.
A memorial service celebrating Kathy’s life will be held from 2:00–3:30 p.m. Saturday, September 10, 2011 at the Lamba Center, 1201 West Clay Street, Houston, Texas 77019. A reception will follow in the home of Debbie Murphy, 502 Avondale, Houston, Texas 77006. Please send any floral tributes to Debbie Murphy’s home. Memorial donations may be made to Girls Rock Camp Houston, or the Leukemia- Lymphoma Society.
