Kathryn was born at home on Christmas day in 1925 and was thought to be the youngest of four siblings. She was therefore known at home and to friends as “Baby”. She later had a younger brother (Toffee Jr.), but the name stuck. She was raised in Sulphur, Louisiana as part of a large, extended family of Lebanese immigrants. She graduated as the salutatorian of Sulphur High School. Her first job was with the Selective Service, doing the administrative processing of local boys entering service for World War II. She later moved to Beaumont, Texas then Houston, Texas where she met and married Charles Cox. After a period as a stay at home mother, she went back to work as an assistant at the 14th Court of Appeals in Houston, rising to become the Clerk of Court at the 1st Court of Appeals. She thrived in that position, and mentored others in their careers in the court. She was a member of the Memorial Drive Methodist Church and sang in the choir there. She had a large circle of friends from various stages and parts of her life. She was known as a supportive friend who listened well, and gave encouraging advice. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who was adored by her family. She will be greatly missed. The family is especially grateful to her caregivers in her last months at home: Flora Lee, Rosie Marmol and Kathryn Berman.
Kathryn is survived by her son, Charles Cox and wife Charis; step-son, Brian Cox; grandchildren, Charles H. Cox, Lauren Cox, Christopher Cox, Natalie Cox, Daven Cox, and Kelli Pritchard. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles S. Cox, Sr.; step-son, Brent Cox; siblings, Richard Nassar, Martha Nassar, Evelyn Nassar, and Toffee Nassar, Jr.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 20, 2021 at 2 PM in the chapel of Heights Funeral Home.
