Kathleen Ann McShane Keller, (Bear) of Houston, passed away peacefully after an extended illness on Saturday morning, the 14th of September 2013. Kathleen was born in New Orleans on the 19th of December 1938, to John Williams McShane and Shirley Riviere McShane.
Kathleen attended the schools of Holy Name of Jesus parish and Loyola University of the South in New Orleans. While in college, Kathleen met the love of her life, Al Keller whom she married in 1959, and spent the next 54 years residing in Norfolk, Virginia, New Orleans, Louisiana, Lafayette, Louisiana and Houston. This special involvement of children and new friends left a mark on all who knew her.
Her hobbies involved travel, tennis, gardening, any games and particularly bridge for which she had achieved many masters points from a very early age. A voracious reader, Kathleen was rarely seen without a book at her side. Her primary joys and functions had to do with the involvement with her children. She was your very typical room mother/team mother type who earned the little league title of "Supermom" from many of her young friends and team coaches.
She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, the Vieux Carre chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Houston Country Club Women's Association.
She was also an exceptional cook who could handle both the fast food specials and fine dining. Most of her young crowd were particularly fond of Bear's famous "gooeys" and she had lots of drop in traffic which she thoroughly enjoyed. She will be remembered for her generosity, quick wit and enthusiasm for laughter.
Kathleen will be greatly missed by her family and friends for the love she had for them and for the care she had shown them over many years. They will always remember the many selfless acts of giving she quietly accomplished.
She is preceded in death by her parents. Kathleen is survived by her husband, Albert Peter Keller II; and her children, Albert Lloyd Keller II (Bert) and his wife, Laura, Shannon Keller Reeves and her husband, Archie, and Brian McShane Keller, and his wife, Victoria. Kathleen was also blessed with the love of 10 grandchildren: Albert Keller Reeves, Finley Brooks Reeves, Graham Mallory Reeves, Albert Sanders Keller, Carson McShane Keller, London Sara Keller, Dylan Rose Keller, Berkeley Eva Keller, Sasha Blair Jezic and Mila Brynn Jezic. Kathleen was also survived by two brothers: John Williams McShane, Jr. and Edwin Joseph McShane. Other survivors include her two sisters-in-law: Audrey Keller Murphy and Janice Keller Douglas. She will also be missed by numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces.
The family would like to extend its sincere appreciation to Thomas M. McGowan M.D. Kathleen also recognizes her friends and caregivers, Delia Marquez and Cesar Chavez.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o'clock in the afternoon until eight o'clock in the evening on Thursday, the 19th of September, in the library and grand foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
