Katherine Jean Morris

Katherine Jean Morris, 89, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2024. Born to Frank LaFaso and Rosa LaFaso on October 7, 1934, in Houston, Katherine lived a life marked by service, dedication, and love.

Katherine is survived by her children: Cheryl Ann Murphy; Donna Marie Dillard and her husband Paul; and Frank Darrell Derr. She also leaves behind her niece Vickie Phelps and her husband Randy, as well as her cherished grandchildren: Shawn Murphy and his wife Elizabeth; Matthew Murphy and his wife Melissa; Michael Murphy; William Dillard and his wife Allison; Jonathan Dillard and his wife Karri. Additionally, Katherine is remembered by her nine great-grandchildren, who brought joy to her later years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Rosa LaFaso; her beloved husband, John D. Morris; and her sister, Frances Harrod.

Katherine devoted 25 years to the City of Houston as an Administrative Assistant before retiring. Her commitment to community service was evident in her extensive involvement with The American Legion Auxiliary, where she held numerous leadership positions, including National President from 2003 to 2004. Her dedication extended to 8/40 Salon 138, the Houston VA Medical Center, Texas Bluebonnet Girls State, the President's Club of Harris County, the Women's Federation of Houston, and the Catholic Daughters.

Katherine's legacy is one of selfless service, unwavering dedication, and profound love for her family and community. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A visitation for Katherine will be held Friday, August 16, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, TX 77023. A funeral service will occur Saturday, August 17, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, TX 77023. A committal service will occur Saturday, August 17, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Forest Park Lawndale, 6900 Lawndale St, Houston, TX 77023.
