Katherine L. Curry of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully, Thursday, January 16, 2020 at 90 years of age. Kathy was born May 13, 1929 to Albert Rush Hutto and Effie Brewer Hutto in Clara, MS. She moved to Mobile, AL, and worked for Pan American Pipeline Co. where she met her husband Donald L Curry. After their marriage in 1952, Donald Curry served in the Air Force for two years. After his discharge, they moved to Houston and Don was employed by Dow Chemical. The family moved to Europe with Dow Chemical and travelled extensively while there, living in Holland and Italy for 8 years.
Kathy was involved in several school committees and women’s groups while living in Holland. After moving back to Texas, the family settled in the Houston area. Kathy began working as Administrative Assistant in International Exploration and Production for Conoco in 1975 and retired in 1988, and received her Associates Degree in Applied Sciences in Business Management in 1985. Kathy was an incredible cook, wonderful hostess, an avid Master Gardener and loved her self-designed beautiful backyard garden where she spent most of her time.
She was a long-standing member of Grace Presbyterian Church, Houston. She will be remembered by her entire family as a true force of nature, with great determination, and a huge heart. She will be greatly missed by the family who survived her, sons Mark (Yun-ah) Curry, Paul (Laurie) Curry, and daughter Donna (Larry) Dees; grandchildren Donald Elrod, Robert, Matthew, Timothy and James Curry, Jessica Furst, great granddaughter Katie Curry, siblings Irma Mills and Lois Stevens, and many nieces and nephews. Kathy was married for 62 years to her husband Donald Curry who passed away in 2013.
She is preceded in death by her husband, parents and siblings Clyde and Rudy Hutto and Betty Culpepper.
A visitation will be held Monday, January 20, 2020 at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, from 8:30 am to 10:00 am with a funeral service to follow at 10:00 am. Following the funeral service their will be a committal service.
