Karen Ann Rogers Schroeter, 70, passed away on December 7, 2018. In her Houston home in the care of her family, Karen died from a rare neurological disease called Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), which she endured for some seven years. She suffered greatly during this time, but her strong Catholic faith endured to the end as she offered all her sufferings to God in unison with His Son’s redemptive sufferings on the cross.
Born June 21, 1948 in Brooklyn, New York to John and Mary Rogers, Karen spent most of her youth in New York and Massachusetts. She graduated from The Mary Louis Academy in Jamaica, New York and went to earn a B.S. degree in Nursing at Georgetown University in 1970 and her Master’s Degree in Child Psychiatric Nursing at Wayne State University in Detroit in 1974.
She retired from nursing in 2012, having finished a long career of service to many, particularly children, whom she loved so much. Her last 17 years of work were spent as the School Nurse at Rummel Creek Elementary School, Spring Branch ISD. Karen was also a volunteer counselor for Bo’s Place, offering grief support for those who have lost family members.
Karen was also a Eucharistic Minister at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Houston and brought Holy Communion to the sick in their homes. She also was a volunteer nurse at St. Michael School and involved in the St. Michael Parish Community since 1985.
She is survived by Thomas Schroeter, her husband of 47 years, son Thomas K. Schroeter, daughter Katie Schroeter Berry and son-in-law Chad Berry, grandchildren Elizabeth Ann Berry and TJ Berry, as well her mother Mary Rogers and brothers Brian and Jim Rogers and sister-in-law Pam Rogers and their families.
Friends are cordially invited to visitation with the family Wednesday, December 12, 2018 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm with the rosary being recited at 7:00 pm in The Hunters Creek Chapel at Earthman Funeral Directors, 8303 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77024. Funeral Mass will be conducted Thursday, December 13, 2018 at 10:00 am at St. Michael Catholic Church, 1801 Sage Road, Houston, Texas 77056 with a reception to follow. Graveside will be at Our Lady of the Rosary Cemetery in Georgetown, Texas.
