Karen was born April 22, 1952, to Robert “Bob” and Edith Mauldin in Taft, Texas. The family moved to west Texas where Karen attended Crane High School.
In 1972 she married the love of her life, Gary D. Butler, and they raised their children and cared for other family children along the way.
Karen had various jobs throughout her life including working in the oilfield, a chicken plant, being a secretary to her husband, and convenience store clerk however her most important and impactful job was being a stay-at-home mom where she cared for, nursed, and loved her children fiercely.
Karen had a strong love of children, nature, and animals. At times, she could be found having conversations with them and for one cow, in particular, she could be found having her morning coffee while bottle feeding that full-grown heifer. She enjoyed card games, video games, word puzzles, and bingo. She had a knack for making comfort food and a meal from nothing. She loved Jesus and she never lost faith in Him. She will be missed dearly.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Robert “Bob” and Edith, her stepmother Bessie, her husband Gary, daughter Desiree, brothers Buck, Jimmy, Rusty, and Bo and sisters Jackie, Billie, Joyce, Geneva, Sarah, and Naomi. She is survived by her sister Betty, her children Terri (John David), Ray, Chuck (Beatriz), and Diane (Dusty), and seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
The family requests that all flowers and notes are sent to American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038.
